Join Our ‘Women Serving Women’ Mission Team!

Women in Ethiopia are unsung heroes… they care for their families, haul water, gather fuel for cooking and work at jobs that are often physically challenging but that bring in a very small income.

Liane Wolbert has a big heart for these women.  She has taken teams of women from the U.S. who focus exclusively on ministering to women – pastor’s and evangelist’s wives, orphanage nannies, elderly widows and single mothers with their children.



In January 2016 Liane will be taking another team of women to Ethiopia…






I don't know if you and I can imagine how completely overwhelming it is for these women to be on the receiving end of so much love and giving! 



They are totally unaccustomed to being honored and appreciated!  And a new outfit?  That's icing on the cake!

Let's Get Zeyneba In School!

Zeyneba is eight years old but she has never had the opportunity go to school.  She lives in a rural village in Ethiopia where farming is the main source of income. 


Her mother, Sura, is a widow raising three children alone.  They live in a one room house with a sheet-metal roof.


Sura has a share in a plot of land but the amount of money she earns is very small.  She just manages to feed her three children – school fees are not within reach.


Adoption Ministry of YWAM is reopening a kindergarten in this village and we are seeking sponsors for seven children like Zeyneba.  Most all are from Musl*m families and are extremely poor. 

Because of your sponsorship of $30 per month, the children will receive uniforms, school supplies, lunch and a great start to their education.  More importantly, they will hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and their families will be introduced to the Gospel as well! 

Contact us to sponsor Zayneba or one of her friends.  You will provide them with an opportunity to know the Truth as well as beginning their first step out of the cycle of poverty – education!

An Orphan No More

The police found a tiny baby boy lying alone outside and though a search was made, no parent was ever found.  It was estimated that he was only about 15 days old.  He was named Jaleto.  
 

For over a year Jaleto grew strong and healthy and was one of the favorites with the nannies and staff. 
 

Coming into the orphanage, he was assigned a prayer partner who prayed for his health and for a family to adopt him as their forever son.  Both prayers were answered!  Jaleto is a well-adjusted, sturdy toddler … and on September 16, 2015 was adopted by a wonderful couple. 
 

Jaleto’s new father, Fikado, is 41 with a Bachelor’s in business management and is manager of a credit and savings share company.  His new mommy, Tigist, is 33 and is a nurse at a local hospital.  Fikado and Tigist desperately wanted a child and  attended the adoption workshop we offered and subsequently prepared themselves to adopt.  The picture shows Nurse Demitu holding Jaleto with Fikado and Tigist.

We are privileged to help train strong Christian families in Ethiopia to adopt orphaned children.  The Ethiopian church is addressing the orphan crisis in their country with a new effort to encourage adoption.  If you would like to help, here is a very practical start… you can help with finances for an Ethiopian couple to attend the necessary adoption training and to complete a homestudy.  Click the photo below!

 

Placing the Lonely in Families

When a tiny baby girl was found abandoned on the ground near an elementary school, everyone looked for who she could possibly belong to but there were no answers.


She was brought to our Mana Gammachuu orphanage and the nannies, recognizing how malnourished she was, began feeding her good formula so that she would gain weight.  Saron thrived and grew under their loving care!

Pastor Melaku and his wife Buze pastor a church in Shashemene and God has given them a heart for adoption! They wanted a little girl and fell in love with Saron when they visited the orphanage.

They also wanted to set an example and have been a wonderful spearhead for adoption within the Shashemene church community.



This precious little girl, once found abandoned…


now has a wonderful family who love her to pieces and shower her with affection and nurture. 
She is being raised to know and love Christ!

What EVERY Child Deserves

Little Tingirt was abandoned and brought to our orphanage when she was just a few months old.  With the loves and kisses showered on her by the nanny-mommies at our Mana Gammachuu orphanage and the nutritious formula given to her, Tingirt grew strong and happy. 
 

At the end of December last year, Adoption Ministry hosted an adoption seminar for Ethiopian couples interested in learning about adoption – something that has not been part of Ethiopian culture.  After attending and subsequently visiting Mana Gammachuu, a wonderful couple eager to adopt a baby girl instantly enjoyed a connection with Tingirt. 
 

On April 3^rd, Ferede and Meseret formally adopted their 10-month-old daughter and brought her home.  Ferede has a Bachelor’s Degree and works for the Shashemene Muncipality office and Meseret stays home to dote on Tingirt.  With a grandmother, two big brothers Beka and Chala (ages 23 & 18), and 14-year-old sister Sara, she does not lack for attention!

Etaferaw loves children and was hired as a nanny for our Mana Gammachuu orphanage.  Etaferaw is married to Girma who is a driver for the hospital, and they have one biological daughter. 
 

Etaferaw began caring for little Chala when he was found abandoned and brought to the orphanage as an infant.  Over time, she witnessed the wonder of adoption as children were adopted from the orphanage by couples in their community.  
 

Etaferaw and Girma made the decision to attend an adoption workshop for the express purpose to adopt Chala who Etaferaw had become very attached to (and he to her!).  In July 2015, Girma and Etaferaw stood before the Ethiopian judge and agreed to love and protect and give full rights as a son to their special little boy.

Permanency for children.  That is our goal for every child assigned to the Mana Gammachuu orphanage.  We actively instill vision for adoption in the Christian Ethiopian community through adoption workshops that provide a biblical perspective of adoption and prepare interested families to legally adopt one of the cuties from Mana Gammachuu.  You can help an Ethiopian adoptive family cover the cost of a homestudy and the required training with your financial gift here.

Back to School… Thanks to YOU

September… the anticipation of starting school is in the air. The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are behind us and school days of readin’, writin’ and ‘rithmetic are upon us. I have found that the people in Ethiopia generally experience similar emotions as we Americans do, and households on both continents are bustling to get kids registered and to buy school supplies.
 

But not everybody has the luxury of getting ready for school. There are quite a number of Ethiopian households who will be experiencing a different kind of anxiety… the punch-in-the-gut heaviness knowing their kids can’t buy books or a uniform and thus cannot attend school. Because Adoption Ministry 1:27 works among the extremely poor, we know the sadness of mothers and the bleak outlook of children who cannot attain an education.

Enough is enough!

This year we reached out to U.S. families and asked if our American community would buy a school package for $55 that would send one child to school complete with uniform, lunch pail, backpack, school books, school supplies and registration fee. The case managers in all project areas assessed the needs of each child in our program and 126 children and young adults needed financial assistance to go to school.


Through the generosity of many, 92* school children will attend school this fall who wouldn’t otherwise have gone! Kindergarten education is being provided through our Mana Gammachuu kindergartens for 80 bright-eyed youngsters thanks to our church partners, Lake City Church (Lakewood, WA) and Lighthouse Christian Center (Puyallup, WA).

To all those who paid for a school package through our gift catalog… we say THANK YOU on behalf of all the mothers and children who can now busy themselves buying a uniform and filling that backpack. It will be a joyful day when mothers, who thought their child would be left behind, will usher their offspring out the door, lunch pail in hand, and gratefully watch him stride off to school.
